An examination that analyses sleep breathing disorders. It is applied in sleep apnoea diagnostics. Sleep apnoea is a serious health disorder that causes the repeated restriction of airflow during sleeping, resulting in loud snoring, momentary arousals, hypoxia, and increased blood pressure. This examination is usually performed at night when the patient is asleep, so the patient will be required to stay in a hospital ward during the tests.

Patients with sleep apnoea usually suffer from increased sleepiness during the day, headaches, and hypertension. According to medical recommendations, polysomnographic tests should be performed on each patient that displays the following symptoms:

  • not feeling rested after sleep
  • anxiety at night (‘tossing and turning’ during sleep)
  • insomnia and frequently waking up
  • trouble concentrating
  • mood swings
  • headaches in the morning
  • obesity
  • arterial hypertension
  • cardiac arrhythmia
